George Schryer served his country in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. George is a Vietnam War veteran.

George and his wife Gail have lived in Beaufort County for the last 17 years. He is a life member of the VFW, Disabled Veterans of America, and the Air Force Gunners Assoc. He is also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and has served as the Commander of both the Greenville and Washington VFW Posts as well as the Commander of VFW Dist. 2. He is currently the Chief of Staff for the Commander of VFW Dist. 2.

Hero - a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.
Recently, I received, from George Schryer, this aggregation of pearls of wisdom that are as true today as they were when first uttered. Accordingly, I thought it wise to publish these as soon as I found the time to do so.
I had the opportunity Thursday to participate in the opening ceremony, in Kinston NC, of the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, the "Wall That Heals". This wall is a half scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC.
Yesterday the famed 101st Airborne returned home to Fort Campbell Ky to a well deserved homecoming with their families after a year of combat in Afghanistan.
