Camelia Dawn Cartwright, Brandon Lee Woolard, and Megan Douglas Woolard Charged with Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury

    On July 13, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of a four-year-old child being seriously injured as a result of being thrown from a roof and hitting the side of a swimming pool at a residence on Terrapin Track in Washington, N.C. The victim had been transported to Beaufort County Medical Center by personal vehicle on July 11th and later transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital with internal injuries. The Sheriff's Office began an investigation, and conducted interviews. The child was visiting an adult friend of the child's mother at the time of the incident on July 11th.

    As a result of the investigation, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Camelia Dawn Cartwright, age 28, of Terrapin Track in Washington with one count of Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury; Brandon Lee Woolard, age 28, of Terrapin Track in Washington with one count of Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury; and Megan Douglas Woolard, age 27, of Highway 264 in Washington with one count of Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.

    On August 3, 2011, the three defendants were served with arrest warrants. They were each held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.
