Sheriff's Office suspects Chocowinity man of sexual exploitation


    On Jan. 24, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received information that an adult had been providing alcoholic beverages to juveniles at a home in Chocowinity. The Sheriff's Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.

    During the investigation, investigators discovered that the adult had assisted victims under the age of 16 in being videotaped engaging in inappropriate activities.

    Investigators applied for and obtained a search warrant to search the adult's residence. The search warrant was executed at the residence on Bay Drive in Chocowinity, and evidence was collected.

    As a result of the investigation, Investigator Ernest Moore applied for and obtained warrants charging Arthur Stanley Cota, age 50, of Bay Drive in Chocowinity, with four counts of First-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and one count of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Cota was arrested today and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Holmes.
